I’ve missed getting a shot a few days, either because I was involved in something that didn’t allow me to take a shot, or it wasn’t appropriate to do so. This collection of images from 10/31 through yesterday, 11/6, were all taken at 2:18 PM or so. I am trying a creative prompt I got from @aaronwessling, a photographer from Portland, Oregon, who has been for the last couple of months following a similar prompt at 4:58 PM. The idea is create an image within a minute of your chosen time each day, no matter what you’re doing or where you are. Like Aaron, I’ve chosen black & white for these captures. I have to tell you that this is a difficult creative exercise. Trying to find something aesthetically interesting, or has a story to tell when you are in a generally mundane place can be quite the struggle. What I’m finding is my life is quite boring at 2:18 in the afternoon. So after a week I can see that this exercise is not only helping me creatively, but it’s also having me rethink how I’m spending my time.

Various snaps of the Lava Fire activity these past two weeks.
1. June 26, the third day while the fire was relatively small at 1500 acres, as seen from US Route 97 and Big Springs Road just outside of Weed.
2. June 26th from Jackson Ranch Road, about 5 miles NW of the fire.
3. Monday night, June 28th, after we evacuated to my brother’s place in Dunsmuir. This shot is looking at the south line if the fire making its way around the west flank of Mount Shasta.
4. Morning of June 29. South fire line north of the city of Mount Shasta.
5. Water tender after filling up at a local ranch pond off of Jackson Ranch Road.
6. One of several choppers involved in fighting the fire on the flight line at the Dunsmuir Airport.
7. After our return to Lake Shastina. Helicopters filling up with water near the dam.
8. SIKORSKY S-64F operated by ERICKSON AIR-CRANE INC
9. US 97 milepost just east of Big Springs Road covered in fire retardant.
10. Devastation.

Despite being on the cooler side and a little breezy, it was a fine day to circumnavigate Lake Siskiyou on the Lake Siskiyou Trail.
